How an Inclusive Workplace Matters

An inclusive workplace is a work environment that recognizes individual and group differences in a workforce. It helps an organization to factor in the perspectives and diversity of background of the employees. This helps to increase employee talent, creativity, innovation, and contribution.

However, there is a difference between an inclusive and diversified workplace. An inclusive workplace may not have diversity among the employees, while at the same time, a diversified organization may not promote an inclusive work culture.

Inclusive workplaces make their employees feel welcome and valued. They are included and integrated into the workforce and are not left isolated.

There are several other characteristics of an inclusive workplace. One of the major traits is that each person has an equal access to all opportunities. That aside, there is open communication and exchange of information, as well as sharing of responsibility and accountability.

Several studies have revealed that an inclusive yet diverse workforce is more innovative and productive. Such an organization can attract and retain its best workers regardless of their respective background. An inclusive company can also have a major competitive advantage over its peers since it’s in a much better position to reach out to a diverse customer base.

  • Here are some of the positive outcomes that an inclusive company has.
  • Enhanced worker commitment regarding involvement with the company and success of the organization
  • Improved employee health, productivity, and well-being
  • Reduced perception of inequality and discrimination
  • Improved collaboration and cooperation between the coworkers
