Autism is a common neurological disorder which develops within the first few years of a child’s birth. The main problem of persons with autism is that various parts of their brain are “wired” differently and doesn’t work together. Individuals with autism are known to struggle in self-explanation, language, communication and motor skills. They also face challenges in social interaction. Starting autism therapy methods as early as possible usually helps a person to overcome the challenges to a great extent.
People with autism face learning difficulties. Depending on the severity of the disorder, they may show up in childhood or during adolescence. Autism can be treated. But the treatment process, needless to say, is long-drawn and difficult. Before anything else, diagnosis has to be early, so that the autism therapy methods can be promptly started. A long therapy and treatment enables a person with autism to gain life skills.
Auditory integration is among the most important autism therapy methods and has been in use since the 1960s. The objective of auditory integration is to identify the sensitivity of the child with autism to audio frequencies, and enhance the auditory, interpreting, thinking, and communication abilities using the correct tones. The method was first started in France and later spread to other parts of the world. A child is given a headphone through which they listen to audio frequencies. The therapy is started depending on their reaction.
Auditory integration, though extensively used, is usually not accepted by the scientific community. Some scientists say that only audio frequencies are not enough to measure the reactions of a child with autism.
